Conquering Fear – Moon Saturn Pluto Occultations 2019-2020

Fear is conquered by moving closer. Facing our fears in a steady, gentle and approachable way we expand out of the shackles of self-limitation, those old prison cell walls reducing our intimate connection and experience of life, barring us from the fearless quality of our own soul. One of the most natural and base of fears is that of change itself. Stepping into the unknown.

It’s as if the whole world is taking that step right now. The opportunity for change is here, and change we know we must embrace. So we take a deep breath. And of course, we who love to use the Moon to time our breathing may look to Her. She’s saying; Here’s some good times to really take a deep breath and make friends with this fear or this change; To become empowered; To know that we can build the reality that we choose:

A Story About the Dark:

Once upon a time there was a young boy who was afraid of the dark. He had been afraid of the dark for as long as he could remember. The truth was being in the sunlight made him feel safe because he could easily see his surroundings and he could clearly tell that there was not any scary monsters in the surrounding vicinity. However, when the sun went down, and shadows and darkness abounded, he no longer felt safe as he could no longer tell for certain if there were any monsters in the surrounding vicinity. In fact his uncertainty lead him avoid the dark at all costs. He would take the path lit by lampshades. He would face with his face to the wall while he slept at night. It was as if the more he tried to avoid the dark and omniscient room behind him the more it seemed there was something scary about to pounce. As he grew older, he recognized that his friends did not have the same discomfort when they had their sleep overs or campouts. Later in his life he decided he did not want to be controlled by his fear of the dark any longer, so he began to spend much time in the dark. He would seek out shadowy corners, old cellars, basement doors. He went into the forest in the middle of the night without a light. His mind at first transformed all the shadows into terrifying beasts. The wind blowing through the tree branches grabbed at him. But instead of cowering away as he had in his youth, he took a deep breathe, he stood still, opened his eyes. With each passing gust of wind, the tree branches became a little less like twisted fingers. With every step further into the forest the darkness became softer; Somehow, warmer. His posture relaxed, his fingers touching the passing vines and leaves, breathing in the rich moist forest air, seeing the faint rays of the moon hint at the shapes of trees, logs, rocks at his feet. He paused and felt home and safe. From then on he enjoyed the night and would wait until after dusk to go out and return to that feeling of safety he found out in Nature.

Find what you are afraid of before it finds you. Move closer to it. Pull up a chair. Bring a nice book to read and make yourself very comfortable. Plan to be there for awhile. Of course the idea is not to inflict a panic attack, but rather to make friends whatever repulses us until it loses it’s magnetism. Find the thing pushing you away and approach it like a detective looking for clues. What exactly makes us so unsettled anyways? Break it apart into pieces. Dissect it. Give your hands something to do. Bring some nice incense or essential oils if it’s dirty work. Relax. It’s not the end of the world. It’s the beginning of something new or different. We may not know it yet, but that’s no reason to keep ourselves locked away, or buried underground. The pain, the mistakes, the imperfections guide and inform us but we have the alchemical potency to turn any blessing into a curse or vice versa. With this power we can heal and prove what is real vs what was simply a figment of our imagination; The monster beneath our bed.
